No instructions but had youtube for help otherwise went fine with running the wire and hooking it up the camera is a little fuzzy but can see behind the truck so not bad but could be better

This was the perfect answer to replace the tailgate camera on my son’s truck. The family friend who did the installation said it was much easier replacing the entire tailgate handle with the integrated camera than having to remove and replace just the camera component from the existing handle. The image quality is just as good as the one that originally came on the truck.

This was a nice upgrade for my Ram truck. It’s hooked up to an aftermarket Android Auto/Apple Carplay head unit. There were no instructions included. So, I had to figure that out on my own by watching some videos. It is time consuming but not terribly hard to install. The video is pretty clear. It helps a lot when backing up my truck to a trailer. However, e “night vision” capability is questionable. Overall, I’m happy the camera and tailgate release functionality.

i can see the ball on my trailer hitch when backing up. takes the guess work out when hooking up.. nice clear image you can see i hope in the pic’s i have uploaded

Good replacement. Doesn’t fit as tight as OEM, but it works. Camera is good quality and works great. Decent price as handle alone sometimes costs more.

The box came with zero instructions. Nothing. Not a card, not a link, not a QR code. I contacted Amazon and they sent me a PDF that was OK, and I do give them some points because when I called a phone number on that PDF with a technical question, they connected me with someone who answered it immediately. I also found some videos online that were helpful.
The part is a perfect fit for replacing the handle on my 2017 Ram 1500. The plastic is it made of feels solid – I was concerned it would feel cheap, like it would break off in my hand – not the case at all.
The camera image is bright and clear, and I like that it is up on the handle away from road scuzz that the license plate camera seems to always accumulate.

I installed this in conjunction with a standalone android auto/apple carplay device, using this in place of the backup camera that came with the device. I also used the device’s wiring to connect to the device rather than the included wiring from this camera, as this one has the RCA-style plug, but the device has the 2.5mm TRRS plug instead. However, the connection from the camera-integrated wiring to the longer “to device” wiring is the same 4-pin connector, so it just plugged in easily. The wiring that came with this backup camera does have a nice corrugated plastic loom to protect the wiring which is nice (the wiring I used from the device did not have that, so hopefully it doesn’t get frayed/cut during use).
The installation was pretty straightforward (despite no installation instructions); the only tricky part (if you want to nitpick) was getting the wire from the camera through the tailgate, as the wiring/loom was fairly “fixed” in its bends from being shipped, and so didn’t want to move easily through the tailgate from the handle/camera to the opening at the bottom of the tailgate. I ended up using one of the twist ties to connect the end of the wire to a long screwdriver, and used that to get the wire to the tailgate bottom opening. After that, it was all plug and play. (As noted, I didn’t use the included “to device” wiring, and instead ran the wiring that came with the display device through one channel of the truck’s box frame up to the rear seat storage area, and from there under the carpet along the passenger side floor near the door up to the front.)
The picture is pretty decent, at least in daylight; I haven’t used it much, yet, but seems to have a good picture, although it is a little bit “fish eyed” right up close. That said, I think it would also be useful for backing up a hitch to a trailer, but I definitely haven’t tried that (I have a hitch but no trailer).
The nighttime picture quality isn’t very good. Unlike OEM cameras, this one lacks his image quality in low light. I haven’t tried backing up with it in this condition yet, but while sitting still, the picture was lacking detail and difficult to see things clearly.
It’s only been installed less than a week, and I’ve only used it a couple of times since installation, but overall I’m pleased with it so far (other than low light image quality). Assuming it holds up over time, I’ll be happy with this, adding a backup camera in an “OEM-style” tailgate handle to my 08 Ram 1500 Quad Cab that doesn’t have any factory backup camera. The tailgate handle doesn’t offer a lock, unfortunately, which would have been a nice addition, but otherwise, pretty good.
