I’ve been taping my broken GS 430 Lexus and ES 300 key shells for years. First one key, then eventually all 4 keys. I just refused to get ripped off by the dealership and third party venders. I was holding out for a price drop in the replace cost. But none are available. The dealerships and 3rd party key replacement venders have us over a barrel. It wasn’t until my daughter borrowed my wife’s car, and the taped key failed to even turn the ignition, let alone start her car, that I decided to replace the keys at whatever cost. As I voiced my angst at work, a coworker suggested calling ACE Hardware, as they can cut and reprogram electronic vehicle keys. I called ACE and found that their replacement cost is $199.00. Not much better than the Lexus dealership. As I was making the arrangement with the ACE rep, he said my 2001 GS430 would be a minimum of a 14 day turnaround, as the older vehicle keys would need to be ordered. I needed a quick solution so I searched Amazon and stumbled upon the STAUBER Lexus key Shell Replacement. I’m the ultimate skeptic…could it be just that simple? Put the guts and cut key into the STAUBER shell??? All for under $10.00??? I have to say that I was encouraged by the large number of positive reviews. Again, $10.00, versus $200, it was worth a try. Well folks, STAUBER rocks! I just replaced 4 broken Lexus keys, again both of my 2001 GS 430 keys and both of my wife’s 2003 ES-300 keys. A perfect fit and a perfect solution! So simple! The kit even comes with a wrench for the four ‘star’ screws as well as shims that ensure a firm snug fit. I love the fact that the case is of great quality and secured by those 4 large screws. The tiny single screw that Lexus uses is simply designed to fail after a couple of years. Shame on Lexus for that deliberate design flaw. Bottom line, I can confirm that my wife and I…and our daughter :-), are extremely pleased with the STAUBER Lexus Key Shell Replacement. And without reservation, I encourage my fellow skeptics to make the purchase. Again, our GS430 and ES300 replacement shells are a perfect fit and the quality and feel are top notch. I am very pleased to give the STAUBER Lexus Key Shell Replacement 5 stars!

Read all of the reviews and all of the print on the Amazon listing. It clearly said that this works with a 2001 Lexus LX470.
I broke the remaining fragments of plastic off of my factory Lexus key and mounted my key fob and key inside the housing. The quality is good and it looked good yet bulky.
I put it in the ignition just as I do with my standard Lexus key and it slid in smoothly without requiring any extra force. The key turned, the starter engaged, and the Lexus sprung to life. I was impressed. Drove up the street to make sure all was good but when I returned to my driveway and tried to remove the key I found I couldn’t….
I ended up having to break the key housing off of the key with a set of pliers because I was unable to get to the screws while it was in the ignition. After destroying this key housing I was then able to remove my key.
The wasted money and time is not the worst of this. My broken Lexus key had enough plastic real estate left to be usable before I removed it to use this key shell replacement. Now it is useless.
I saw the seller calling out other reviewers who said this did not work with their Lexus car before I bought. They were reminding them that their care was not in the listed vehicles on the ad. I will not be surprised if they change the listing and remove LX470 from the vehicles that this fits as well and do the same to me….

I was really happy with the product quality and ease of assembly. Sure it may not look like the original OEM key from Lexus, but it seems like this one is a great solution and looks to be better designed and more sturdy than the one that Lexus provides. The case is made from thicker plastic and the four screws distribute the clamping force around the case as opposed to a single point of failure, like the original key has. Great work creating this alternative to the poorly designed original. Hope to get many worry free years from this product!! The electronics and the key itself fit really snug. Although it may seem much more bulky that the OEM key dongle, it actually isn’t that much bigger, and considering it’s solid feel, being a bit bigger isn’t an issue. One suggestion would be to have it made from black plastic, but other than that, very happy!!

I have purchased 4 of these over the last few years.
2 have held up great and the 2 that I have had to replace batteries on have not. Seems like once you disassemble the case the screws do not tighten as they used too leaving the metal key loose when the one or 2 that will not tighten is on the key side!
Sadly I just had to buy yet another one!
Still the cheapest solve I have found, just wish they lasted longer. No issues until you have too take them apart to replace batteries.
Also something that is not noted by the seller is that these work on 1998-2007 Toyota Landcruiser key fobs!

Original Lexus key snapped as usual near the collar of the key blade; after looking around, found this to be the best, reasonably-priced alternative.
(The only other, non-Amazon option I considered was a metal one priced at >$100, which had a long lead time. This was available immediately, and did the trick.)
Once I got it, transferring the electronics module & key blade and tightening the screws took less than 5 minutes, quick and easy. Everything is as expected, buttons are easy to access, and the key blade goes into the ignition without the new body being impeded.
Just a minor thing, though: I wish the plastic used for the body did not feel so cheap. Not sure how to describe it (and I definitely would not want a ‘soft-feel’ plastic coating) but this doesn’t have the same, nicer feel of the original Lexus key body.
Still, for $15, it is good value, was an easy fix and feels like it will last indefinitely. Worth it.

The quality it’s good works well

Very sturdy much better than factory. The plastic material used scratches very easily. Aesthetically IMHO ugly, but it does the job without cutting and programning

Have used other types of repairs or key blanks and this is the best one I’ve tried. There is a lower cost Stauber one with rounded corners, this one seems to be updated with squarer design and thicker plastic in areas where the older version failed (i.e. key ring area). Photo shows silver Philips screws, but mine were black torx screws which I prefer.
The only negative is slight side-to-side wobble with the re-used key. The included plastic shims don’t help, so what I did instead was put small dab of ORIGINAL Gorilla glue which expands to fill the small voids as it sets. Only put the glue on one side of the key, you still want to be able to open the body for batteries changes.
One annoyance is lack of unlock/lock on plastic shell that was on the original OEM shell. So memorize your buttons.
Despite these couple shortcomings this is still the best solution for these Lexus Keys.
