As Mentioned earlier, the cap must be placed on without the key. To remove the cap, you must insert the key and turn it before you try to unscrew the cap. Only after you do this can you remove the gas cap. Here the annoying thing. The key is not bidirectional. It goes in in one direction, only. Inserting it at night or in low light a turkey shoot! I notched the key and cap to help. A bidirectional key would have been the a much better design.

stant 10512 locking fuel cap is good, quick and easy to use, custom fit for my specified vehicle, tamper – proof enough for its lightweight construction, a good seal so no ‘check engine’ light issues. very good for the price $23.

I installed this gas cap about three weeks ago. I went to fill up today 8-24-2021 and the cap unlocked. However, when I turned the key to the locked, or free wheel position, it stayed in the remove/replace mode….and the key would not come out. I repeat, I installed this new, locking gas cap…once! And the first time I remove it, it stay’s in the open-up position and the key won’t come out. I do a fair amount of business with Amazon. Twenty plus orders in three months. I am 4 day’s beyond the allowed return period. Even Autozone or NAPA would help me out. In closing, while I have had excellent service and am pleased with 98% of my purchase’s from Amazon. And I am not applying blame to anyone. Show a regular, frequent customer that I do matter. Your response would help restore this customer’s faith in the big business machine that is Amazon. First of all, in order to make sure the model will fit your car, the Stant website has a very handy guide that will tell you exactly what model will fit what vehicle.
The quality of this cap is OEM if not better, the plastic is strong and durable, and the lock is effective.
In the end I sent it back, deciding I wanted the non locking model (I need to push a button on the inside of my car to even access it) but that too was from Stant, and has been working great ever since.

I purchased this item for my sisters car. The gas was siphoned from it during the gas shortage after we were hit with Hurricane Sandy. It is a good product it does what it’s designed to do.

Product fits well, comes off and goes back on easily.
I won’t allow a criminal to access my fuel tank, thus stranding my family on the highway. But if you don’t value your wife’s safety, then proceed with your blinders intact…

It is awkward to use at first until you realize how it is suppose to work. I assumed I needed to leave the key in the cap upon removal in order to use it again to lock the cap. This is incorrect. Use the key to unlock the cap and then take it out. When done fueling – put the cap without the key in it back onto the vehicle and then twist the cap to hear it clicking. Then rotate the cap the other direction to ensure it has locked. I bought this for a 2006 KIA Sorento and I am very happy with it. Note that my first Stant 10512 Locking Cap arrived missing the key. Amazon very quickly replaced it with one that had the key.

I bought this bc Im pretty sure my crackhead neighbors are stealing my gas. I have a 2006 Kia Sorento LX. It fit perfectly. I took it off with ease and put it back on easily. Id reccomend this any day.
