Local parts stores didn’t carry it, couldn’t order it, that just left the dealer (Yea let’s spend too much money) I don’t so. Found on Amazon, bought it, received in 5 days and works perfect. I believe 88 – 93 thunderbirds is the only years for this combo, haz. – turn built together. If your turn SIG. Doesn’t flash or light up the dash and stay lit its your flasher or your sinal lever, if it stays lit on your dash or blinks fast its a bulb. Hope this helps and this is a motorcraft original part. Worked like a charm. Nothing to report funny here. It is and does what it says it is and will do. Can’t ask for more than that at a cut rate price! There are no parts stores in my area that carry this relay…I have searched online and found this same relay for $51.00 on other websites…I started to order, then I decided to check Amazon. I am glad I did! This is the same part for $20.00 less…It pays to shop around!

It took me forever to be certain that this was the right part for my 89 Mercury Cougar, and yanking the old one out was a royal pain.
I spent several hours upside down under my dash, locating, extracting, then disconnecting the old unit, but it was worth it. Driving around with faulty turn indicators is not fun. (Suddenly there are cops EVERYWHERE!) Besides, having a repair shop or a Dealership replace the thing would have cost me a couple of limbs and my first-born child at least.
Anyway, this replacement works as advertized so I’m very happy with it. If you’re going to replace one yourself, be ready to yank and pry and scream at the old one because those plastic clips they use to keep it in place are INSANE!!! I finally wound up snapping one apart on purpose, just to get the unit free. The new one is still sort of hanging free, but I could care less at this point. It’s been working for well over a month now without a hitch.
Also, it might help to know, that this “flasher” is used by the hazard-lights as well. This makes it a bit easier to locate while you are hanging like a vampire-bat beneath your dash. I turned my hazard lights on and felt around until I could feel the relay clicking inside. When I first did this, I wasn’t sure if the turn indicators and hazard flasher were two different units. On my car, an LS model with with a V6 and AC, this one unit handles both requirements. (And aside from all my reading and searching, I wasn’t totally sure of this until I disconnected the unit.) I found several different descriptions and part numbers for this thing, so be careful and make certain you get the right unit for your car.
I would recommend this item to anybody who can properly match it to their own car. (As you may notice, the Amazon listing says “Flasher Directional.” The one they sent me ALSO functions as the Hazard Lights flasher. It’s even printed on the unit itself.)

The stock flasher relay in my 1990 Mercury Cougar worked only when it felt like it should and with cops on the roads there was no way I was going to put up with it working when it felt like it.
How do you know if you need to replace the flasher relay?
– If warning flashing lights do not turn on
– If the turn signals turn on occasionally (in my case when ever it felt is should)
Installation is easy you just need to locate the flasher relay, which is located below the steering wheel to the right, unmount it from its spot and disconnect the plug attached to it, pop in the new one, remount.

Even though it did not end up being the relay that was not working in my car, at least I have a new one so that I do not have to worry about it for a while! With old cars, it’s always good to err on the side of safety and caution, because even if you end up spending a modest amount of money on a new part of this caliber, it does not hurt–you probably will need it sooner or later anyway. For my part, the car I drive is almost 17 years old, so it is to my benefit that I got the wrong part.
