Had this for not even a couple months and it started jamming up in the lock. Even made extra sure there was no gunk. (Life lesson learned here) I used to always wait till I was on E to fill up. I was like negative E this day and the lock absolutely would not catch. It clicked and felt right but no matter the amount of pressure or careful attempts it would not open. Had to take giant bolt cutters to cut it off and take it out piece by piece. Absolutely the worst experience of my life and now I don’t even use locking caps. I’d rather deal with someone stealing some gas then that experience again.

Remember the adage, “you get what you pay for”? This is a piece of “::::” (yeah, you know what I mean). It fit the vehicle well. Good seal. However, from day one, it just didn’t unlock easily to twist open/off. Locked up fine – haha.
Today, in line at the gas station, it refused to open AT ALL. Lovely,.. not! Yes, I know how it’s supposed to work. After struggling with it, by hand, for over ten minutes, I finally got out of line, much to the relief of the patient guy behind me. Tried another ten minutes in a parking spot. No joy. Frustrated? No. I was hopping mad at this point. Luckily, tank was not empty. Got home and wrangled it off. Plastic JUNK. Happy that none of it went down filler neck.
Spend more, get more!! If Amazon had negative ‘stars’, this would’ve earned it.

UPDATE : dumb plastic broke and I had to pry the cap out. Pos. Do not buy.
Works perfect. Usually lefty is unlock loosey but on this it’s turn the key to the right then loosen the cap. Confused me at first and got stuck but it works perfectly.

I purchased this item for my 2012 Nissan Frontier. The cap fit perfectly without any seal problems or engine light issues, and the locking/unlocking mechanism was simple and worked flawlessly. The only potential improvement that could be made on this item is if it came with a functional tether like all OEM caps do. While there are MANY retailers that sell this item or similar items, not a single one sells a locking gas cap with a tether. It would be an easy upgrade for any of these companies to make, and would likely increase sales considerably!

Imagine my panic when I practiced with this before installing and it seemed to work then installing it and it wouldn’t come off.
The key wouldn’t operate as instructed.
A Google search suggested cutting it off, taking it to a mechanic, and pushing on it like it’s a medicine cap. It’s no longer on my car. What a nightmare.

For the price, this will slow down or stop fuel theft. You can’t over-tighten it. Gives a definite feel and click when it’s on. Not hard to unlock. You can do it all with one hand. I put one of these on all 3 of my work trucks. It’s a good investment that won’t break the bank.
