I am able to use this item to provide power to my iPhone when driving my 24 year old Mercedes-Benz SLK 320. This car predates the use of usb ports so none are provided. Works great and also provides a digital readout of my battery’s voltage.

Never would have purchased this except I purchased a Ford Maverick hybrid and joined a Maverick fourm and with all the complaints about the 12 volt battery going dead, fourm members pointed to this to keep track of the voltage.

I bought this when we were having repeated problems with the battery in our car being dead. The problem turned out to be a defective part that the dealer replaced because it caused a parasitic draw on the battery even when everything was turned off. I used this to keep an eye on the voltage until I was certain the problem had been fixed. Tip: use a voltmeter to measure the battery voltage directly at the battery terminals, then compare the voltage reading from this adapter. That will give you a baseline understanding of the voltage drop that occurs in the wiring harness from the battery to the cigarette lighter. This helps you understand what the voltage shown adapter meter means over time. Just tried this in a relative’s 2019 Outback and the two measurements were the same (11.82 at battery, 11.8 on the adapter) so virtually no voltage drop in that car’s harness — meaning he can use the adapter to accurately monitor electrical system voltage.
