    These fit a 2013 Hyundai Genesis trunk lid well, with easy install.

    Works just as described. One of the two OEM struts on my trunk failed (you can tell because the fluid leaked out of it from the seal failing) and the trunk would slam down instead of staying open. Installed following instructions from a YouTube video (search for CaneSwag Trunk since Amazon won’t allow links externally).

    Was pretty easy to install. Get a 2×4 board or something to prop up the trunk while you work on it. Maybe someone to hold a light for you to see the struts better too.

    … but to replace the OEM struts in a 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan, it would have helped immeasurably if I’d had skinny 6′ long tentacle-arms and be able to see thru my fingertips in the dark. The problem lies entirely with the mean, stubborn, fat headed, &$#@! trunk liner. Once past that obstacle your next hurdle is reaching in with a 4.5″ long flat blade screwdriver thru the narrow opening between top and side pieces you would have sworn you’d made wider than it turned out to be. This is a good time to caution that A) should you drop your screwdriver… well don’t, and B) mind those ragged, sharp, unfinished edges of the trunk liner pieces or you’ll end up withdrawing a bloody stump where your arm used to be.
    Now that you’ve gotten this far, your final tasks are first to insert the 1/8″ wide tip under the steel spring clip at each end of each strut and somehow twist your wrist to pop it (them) off and then remove/replace with your new struts before putting the whole trunk liner mess back together. The part of the proj. involving the new pistons was sublimely easy, however. Just familiarize yourself with the spring clips on the new pieces. It will help immeasurably when you have to remove the old ones, because you’re going to be working blind.

    These fit my 2012 Genesis perfect. Thanks to another review I figured it out. Never done it and I am not very strong and other than replace a car light, pump air or replace a battery, don’t do much car maintenance. So you can do it too.

    So here are the steps. 1. Pull up, no tools required, the trunk lid weather strip. Gently so you don’t break it. No need to pull all the way out. After you pulled it up, you will see the trunk liner ends. 2. Now you can unhook the top 3 black hooks on top and the liner that covers the speaker now comes loose. 3. Wiggle a bit and pry gently and you will unhook the two fasteners. Just pull gently with pliers on the 3 taps up and then fold the trunk liner that covers the speakers back down. 4. The side liner you remove by gently prying the black fasteners loose and fold the liner out of the way, just enough so you see the lift supports. By the way, have somebody hold your trunk lid open for you while you do all this. I tried to support it with cords and they snapped loose and hit me hard, missing my eye by little. So get help! The whole process took less than an hour and so my helper was OK. 5. Use a work bench and find the right screw driver, small, flat, that fits your struts so you can pry the clamp the hold them in place back. There are instructions and YouTube videos and you will figure that part out. It’s a bit awkward, and I needed a small screwdriver and a small gentle hammer to pry them lose, as I am not strong, but you will figure it out. If I did, so can you. Trust me. The new lift support fit perfectly, I was able to snap them in place by pushing in and or lift the metal snap so slightly with the small flat screwdriver, by the way no need to lengthen them, use the original settings, all screwed in, and they fit. 6. Then reverse the process and clamp back back the liners. The dealership quoted me a small fortune, so I been living with it for 3-4 years. Big mistake. I will keep my car for another 100,000 miles and my wife is very happy I finally fixed it, she and I hit our heads too many time on the trunk lid. Overall: 1 hr, a few twists and 49 bucks latter, a fine product. Good luck. Hope I was of help.

    2011 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Trunk Strut installation. It’s not hard to do, but it is a bit confusing, since these are fully concealed behind trunk liner.
    1. Tools needed include an awl or a very thin Philips screwdriver, a long, thin flat blade screwdriver, a flashlight, and a tool to pull trim fasteners. A larger flat blade screwdriver would work if you’re careful.
    2. You’ll be working in the trunk, under the rear deck speakers.
    3. Gently lift up trunk gasket on top trunk sill, just inboard of the trunk hinges and in the center, below the third brake light. The gasket is glued on, but will pull up with minimal effort.
    3. You’ll see three black clips attached to the liner and clipped to the metal of the lip. Push top trunk liner up while pulling them aft and unclip them. It’s a bit of a dance to get them to release, but not difficult.
    4. The top of the trunk liner has two hidden clips holding it in place. You can identify their location by looking for the black plastic rivets in the trunk liner, about 3 inches toward the front of the car.
    5. Gently reach between the trunk liner and the metal of the rear deck near one clip and push downward with a slow steady effort. The clip will release without breaking. The top liner can be slid toward the middle a bit and the other clip will slide out of it’s track, or you can repeat the downward push on the other side (I slid the liner, since I was afraid of breaking the plastic pieces). The top of the trunk liner will hinge downwards. Set the clips aside.
    6. Remove the trim over the trunk hinges. This may not be necessary, but I needed to so I could see where the struts were and how to loosen strut clips. Use the awl (even a piece of straightened hanger would work) to gently push in the center of the two clips on the trim (inboard side of the hinges). Don’t push too far or the pin will push into the trunk hinge piece. Pull out the two piece clip, set aside.
    7. Pull out the two fasteners on the top of the hinge trim. They require some jimmying to get out. Don’t use too much force, just wiggle them out. Remove the hinge trim and set parts aside. This allows a flashlight to be used to see the struts, which are outboard of the hinge and attach to the rear wall (the metal wall behind the rear seat).
    8. Get your new struts ready. The ball joints on the new strut should be turned to be opposite one another (one facing in and one facing out).
    9. Assure the struts are ready to be installed in the correct orientation. The cartridge end of the strut faces aft, the polished metal arm faces forward. Note how the spring clip holds the ball joint onto the balls attached to the vehicle. You don’t have to do anything but snap the new strut on, but you will have to release the clip to get the old strut off
    10. Get an assistant to support the trunk lid.
    11. Use the flashlight to identify where the strut end is and use your long flat blade screwdriver (at least 6 inches is preferable) to gently loosen the clip on the old strut, whichever end is most convenient for you.
    12. Have assistant fully support trunk lid.
    13. Keep a tight grip on the screwdriver, or it will be lost under the side trunk liner and rattle around. The clip does not need to be removed (and if you try, it will pop off and either come zinging out or be lost forever). Just loosen it and pop the strut off of it’s ball mount.
    14. Repeat on the other end of the strut, keeping a good hold on both the screwdriver and the strut, so neither are lost. Remove strut and screwdriver. Confirm that old and new struts are identical. Dispose of old strut so you don’t get confused and reinstall it
    15. Snap one end of the new strut in place, whichever end is convenient, making sure the orientation is correct.
    16. Have assistant lift trunk open as much as possible, until other ball end is lined up with strut ball cap. Snap strut into place. Not hard, just awkward, and since old struts are bad, you may have to lift trunk lid more open than the other old strut wants to.
    16. Repeat other side, having assistant support trunk during process so it doesn’t bash you in the head. Test operation of the trunk. Should be much better.
    15. Reinstall trunk hinge trim if you removed it, and reinstall hinge trim clips. Two to each hinge, and two to the rear deck each side.
    16. Place white clips into trunk liner fitting. Use flashlight to make sure they are lined up and push clips back into holder. May take direct pressure on the clip to get it to snap into place. Repeat on other side (can slide first side back in also, but that was harder).
    17. Push up on each of the three trunk liner clips. They’ll snap into place.
    18. Push trunk gasket back into place.
    Good luck! Not hard, and can be done in less than an hour first time. Would have taken less than 30 minutes once I knew the process.
