Installed on my 2013 Honda Fit for the battery to maintain a charge while being towed. The best scenario is to start with a fully charged battery, this charger is a trickle charger. Black wire to the power source on the light cord receptacle on the front of the Honda. I use a 7way to 6way Roadmaster light cord of which the center connector is the 12v auxiliary power. Red wire to battery Red terminal. I did not use the blue wire, just capped the blue wire and ran it along with the black wire in a loom.

I am using this to replace the missing battery charger on our used W-W trailer. I don’t need the waterproof box as the battery and charger have their own compartment in the tack room. This was a simple install, and all I needed to do was provide the ground cable for the battery, and solder the black and blue cables to the wiring the harness.

I put this on my buddie’s car trailer that has an Interstate battery with a large winch. I was concerned about hooking a wire directly to the battery from the trailer wiring because the winch is such high current. His small trailer brake battery also was junk so I wanted to run the emergency brakes off the winch battery. My friend never charged up the battery and when I went to use it the battery would need to sit on my trickle charger for days to recover. I installed this gem a month ago. I put the trickle charger on the Interstate last week and it almost immediately switched to float. If you do long trips to pick up vehicles this is well worth the investment to keep your battery charged.

Not quite 5 star. I have absolutely no idea why the blue wire is included. I tried installing it like the (terrible) instructions said and it:
A- Wouldn’t charge my breakaway battery.
B- Got INCREDIBLY hot within a minute or two, almost to the point that it was uncomfortable to handle.
C- Undoubtedly would have melted and/or caught on fire if left installed like it was.
So, with my multimeter hooked up to the battery, I clipped the blue wire (the one that goes to the trailer brakes) and it instantly started charging the battery. Within a few minutes it had cooled down and was working flawlessly.
Two weeks later, hooked up the trailer, battery had rested down to about 12.5v and within 15 minutes or so was back up to 14ish volts. So it does work, just can’t figure out what the blue wire is supposed to do.
