This is a must have for anyone who had the NISSAN squealing belt issue, a known issue with pathfinder frontier and xterra. Mine was a 2006 Pathfinder with 126,000 miles. From what I read, the OEM belt tensioner doesn’t have the proper amount of tension which is part of the problem. When I replaced these parts, i was able to loosen the OEM tensioner using 1 hand, the new one is very stout, I had to use a cheater pipe and 2 hands to push it down and get the belt back on MUCH TIGHTER. After installing these parts not only was the squeak and squeal gone, but it was just much quieter in general

This is just like a OEM. Went on easy and is a good price for the kit. I got a price of $72 just for the exact same one and that was just for the tensioner alone with out the belt which was another $29.. Shipping was fast with 2day prime..

After 100k miles I replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner. The original tensioner had a weaker spring, still my truck made it throug 100 k miles without any belt squealing. The tensioner is an OEM replacement made in Canada, the belt is a Gates product, known for its excellent quality.
After replacing them, the engine became noticeably quieter.
I strongly recommend this product, would buy it again.

Buy with confidence. My wife’s 2005 Nissan Xterra was “squeaking” when starting up, especially during rainy, damp, snowy weather. Looked up on the net and there is a TSB from Nissan on the serpentine belt tensioner. Turns out, her Xterra was one of the listed failing tensioner item numbers that needed to be replaced if symptoms developed (squeaking) at start up. Easy to install. Total time was about an hour. Works like new. Great package deal: tensioner and new belt. I wish all vehicle repairs were this easy.

I bought this tensioner kit 9 months ago and I thought it was great and at a reasonable price. However after 7 months in use the tensioner bearings started to squealing, requiring a continually spray with grease to stop the sound. I wouldn’t recommend this product after such a short life expectancy of the bearings. I’ll have to replace the tensioner now b fore I get stuck somewhere.

My Frontier has 87k miles so the serpentine belt was due for a change. Also, when cold, the belt emitted a loud chirp. The noise went away when the engine warmed up.
The Gates serpentine belt and tensioner kit is as advertised. Both components fit perfectly.
Taking off the old belt was simple. But installing the new one is far more difficult. I wasted a lot of time trying to fit the belt over the fan. Mistake. The entire belt is installed proximal to the fan. The key is to thread the belt between two sheaves.
Oddly, the old belt did not have any obvious wear. Close to 11 years and it looked new.

Installed this today on my 2006 Nissan Frontier 4.0 Crew Cab 4×2 with 112,000 miles. The belt may have been changed 7 years ago at 69,000 miles when the timing chain was replaced under warranty, but I figured since it was squealing, I might as well replace both the belt and the tensioner. Total replacement probably took about 20-30 minutes. All that was required was a 10mm socket, flat screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, long 3/8″ ratchet to release tension, and a 14mm open-end/box-end wrench. Removing and replacing the bolt for the tensioner is probably the longest and most difficult part of the job – especially if you have larger hands and forearms.

Buyer beware, i installed this tensioner on a 2005 Nissan Frontier 4.0. Should be a direct replacement for my truck. The problem with this tensioner is the pulley mounting shaft is too short. First start after install, the belt threw; as a pretty darn good mechanic, I’ve never had this happen, so i reinstalled the belt. Second start, the belt threw again; i knew something was wrong with the tensioner, so i took the new one off and compared it to the original. I found the clerance between the new tensioner pulley and tensioner body to be 2.5mm. The original was just over 3mm. My old tensioner had bad bearings in the pulley, so i pressed the bearings out of both and swapped the bearings. Measurements were the same, but the old pulley with the new bearing had a little wobble. This is the point where i went to a local parts store and bought a new pulley. I installed the new parts pulley on the new tensioner and reinstalled on my truck. Low and behold, it threw the belt again. I swapped the new (parts store pulley) onto the old tensioner and installed. The belt finally stayed on. Now my truck is sitting with an old tensioner and new parts store pulley; the only part of this kit I am using is the belt. The parts store pulley also has a taller bearing, allowing for less eventual wobble. The problem with this kit is the pulley being to close to the body allows the belt to slip off the tapered shoulder of the pulley. I guess .5mm makes all the difference in the world. Regarding the description claiming it fixes the TSB for squeak is technically correct, because if the belt comes off, the enginge no longer squeaks…..lol.
