Love this phone holder. The thumb screw makes it adjustable to any angle even after you install it – so in my case I mounted the adhesive rubber base to a vertical surface in the car, as I’m using this to hold a dedicated Android Auto tablet instead of a phone, and I want it to cover the old CD and radio in the car. The adhesive held strongly and immediately — I did use the included wet and dry wipes to scrub the car surface clean and then get it totally dry before adhering it. The build of the metal hinged parts are high quality and stylish and sturdy, and the joints are easy enough to move deliberately but then stay firmly in place even on bumpy rides in an old cheap car. The magnetic strength of the thin metal ring to the mount is surprisingly powerful. It comes with a spare adhesive for the rubber base so you can remove it and reposition it to a new place or a new vehicle, at least if you manage to keep track of what that sticker is for and can find it again once you need it. I stuck mine in the glove compartment and I hope future me will recognize it later.
However, after less than 48 hours the tablet had fallen off. I assumed this was that the thin ring of steel for non-magsafe phones just didn’t provide enough magnetic attraction. Wrong. It was still happily stuck to the magnet on the mount, and the mount was still strongly secured. What had failed was the adhesive between that thin ring and the android tablet. I can fix this easily enough with some stronger adhesive for the ring — vhb tape or epoxy or something (superglue would probably also do but it’s brittle especially against shearing and the bumpiness in the ride would be a shearing load). The plastic on my tablet was the sort that has just a bit of very faint texture that makes stickers adhere worse but glue adhere better — on an actual phone the adhesive might adhere a little better and a case might help hold it to the phone, but beware you might end up regluing the ring too if you don’t have a magsafe phone.

This car dashboard stand is very strong. When I opened it I immediately noticed the strength of the metal-it doesn’t feel cheap. And the magnet is very strong as well-as a matter of fact the instructions say to remove the phone sideways this way you don’t rip the stand from the dashboard while trying to take it off. What the instructions do not tell you is that the clear sticky ring is supposed to be installed Under the black “petal” looking sticky cup-if your dashboard is not smooth and mine isn’t. I tried both ways and without it mine fell off. After I installed the clear sticky circle I pressed everything down for about 20 sec. and then waited overnight before I placed my phone on there so it can “cure”. If you place the phone right away on there it will fall off-trust me, I tried it! lol. Now lets see how well this withstands the summer sun and heat! I would say I am impressed by the design of the “petal” base as it gives it more flexibility to be installed on curves surfaces like dashboards, and also the tilt and spin feature is awesome. I can turn my phone sideways or upright depending on what I’m doing…

When you open the package, you will probably ask yourself, “What are these extra parts?” The manual doesn’t explain what they are but the answer is simple: the tiny clear plastic rings are extra replacement washers to use in the future in case the ones installed inside the mount fail to keep the articulating arm tight.
And the larger clear plastic disc, which has adhesive on both sides like double-sided tape, is a spare to use in the future if you decide to move the mount to a different vehicle.
Installation suggestions: 1) once you determine where you’re going to mount the holder, put down some painter’s tape so that when you remove the adhesive strip and press the mount onto the dashboard, it’s easy to hit the same spot; and 2) after installing, set some sort of weight on top of the mount and let it sit overnight while the adhesive cures. I used a 2-1/2 pound free weight.
In terms of reviews, I must say this is the highest quality car phone mount I’ve ever encountered — and I’ve used a lot of of them!
