Ordered two of these Monroe ‘Quick Struts’ for rear of 2007 Taurus. The mechanic had the old struts removed and was about to install the new ones when I discovered one of the strut boxes had been opened and taped shut. Appears someone had removed the Monroe strut and replaced it with an off-brand strut. The strut in the unopened box had a sticker on it saying it was a Monroe Quick Strut, the other strut had a different sticker and didn’t say Monroe. There were other visible differences which appeared to be cosmetic, such as the rubber on the springs being different colors. No way to know if the struts will perform as a matched pair since they aren’t the same struts. I couldn’t leave the car torn part at the garage while I straightened this out with Amazon so had to install the struts. I feel ripped off. I paid extra to get two genuine Monroe struts and it appears I only got one. Buyer beware.

I would say its not exactly an easy job. Probably depends on which part of the country you are in. Rust belt will most likely be the hardest. Be ready to use “those words”.

This is the way to buy struts as a complete unit. You don’t have to worry about a spring compressor and if your springs are broken, which seems to be typical for older Taurus’s,it solves the problem by having it complete just unbolt the old and bolt in the new. A word of advice buy the bolt kit too and use a good rust buster and let it soak. I would recommend these to anyone replacing the old strut, and buying them complete solves the unexpected suprise of having to replace other pieces if you buy the strut alone.

Ford blew it with the Taurus. Their struts do not hold up and their springs are life threatening. Many have broken and flipped the cars causing serious injuries. I can not believe the government did not make Ford pay for the replacement of these defective parts. My 2006 Taurus was bottoming out in every curve with only 20,000 miles on it. There are three, or four replacement systems on the market, but the others give a harder ride and cost a little more. I have relatives that work for Monroe and they have always bragged about Monroe’s quality, so I gave them a try. I have never replaced struts before and I am in my late 60’s, so it took about four hours for the job. The instructions were easy to follow. Don’t forget to buy the $6.00 strut kit, which is just two new bolts. They should come with the struts, but they don’t. This kit saved me $400.00 and the car rides better then it did when it was new. It will take the car a few days to level out, then take it in for a lineament. That cost $80.00 for the Taurus because Ford used rivets instead of bolts and the shop has to drill the rivets out in order to line up the wheels. This product is by far the best and safest way to replace Ford’s defective struts and springs.
